Dentro de dois dias celebra-se o Dia Europeu das Línguas, mas na Europa ainda há muitos cidadãos que conhecem apenas a língua materna. De acordo com um estudo divulgado hoje pela Eurostat, os países onde há maior percentagem de pessoas que não falam línguas estrangeiras são a Hungria (75%), Portugal (51%), Espanha (47%), Bulgária (44%) e Grécia (43%). Ainda assim, há uma cada vez maior aposta no ensino de línguas estrangeiras, e actualmente apenas cera de 6% dos estudantes da UE no ensino secundário nunca estudaram outros idiomas.

In two days it is the European Day of Languages, but in Europe there are still many citizens that know only their mother tongue. According to an Eurostat survey, the countries having the highest shares of those speaking no foreing languages are Hungary (75%), Portugal (51%), Spain (47%), Bulgaria (44%) and Greece (43%). Still, there is a growing tendency in learning foreign languages, and nowadays only about 6% of secondary school pupils in the EU hasn't studied any other language.
