ilegais... mas com direitos / illegal... but with rights

O medo de serem apanhados é grande. E não é de admirar, pois encontram-se ilegais e têm de fugir às autoridades cada dia que passa...  Mas o que muitos não sabem é que em vários países europeus têm direito a receber tratamento médico tal como qualquer outro cidadão. Ignorância dos individuos em situação ilegal, mas também dos profissionais do sector que não se encontram suficientemente informados. De acordo com um estudo do Observatório Europeu de Acesso aos Cuidados de Saúde, 70% dos imigrantes ilegais que procurou assistência médica encontrou dificuldades em ser atendido. Com ou sem documentação, a lei defende que todo o indivíduo deve receber cuidado médico quando necessário. Mas afinal, e na realidade, nem todos são iguais aos olhos do serviço de saúde.

The fear of being caught is big. And no wonder, as they are illegal and they have to run away from the authorities every single day... But what many of them do not know is that in several european countries they are actually entitled to receive medical treatment as if they were legal citizens. Fact ignored by them, but also by the medical professionals that are not sufficiently informed. According to a study of the European Observatory on Access to Health Care, 70% of illegal immigrants who sought medical care faced some kind of dificulty. With or without documentation, the law says that every person shall receive medical care when needed. But after all, and in reality, not all are equal in the eyes of the health system.
