Dia D / D Day

Hoje é dia de eleições em dois países europeus: Alemanha e Portugal. Aparentemente não haverá grandes surpresas e os vencedores serão os mesmos que agora governam os dois países. Angela Merkel continuará chanceler alemã e José Sócrates repetirá o cargo de primeiro-ministro português. Mas a repetição da vitória não deve ser a única coincidência. Ambos não conseguirão obter uma maioria absoluta pelo que terão de recorrer a coligações. E aí reside a grande dúvida. Irá a União Democrata Cristã (centro-direita) de Angela Merkel conseguir a desejada coligação com o Partido Liberal Democrata (centro-direita) ou ver-se-á obrigada a repetir a união com o Partido Social Democrata (centro-esquerda)? E em Portugal, irá o Partido Socialista de José Sócrates promover uma coligação inédita com o Bloco de Esquerda, partido que poderá tornar-se na terceira força política do país? Perguntas que terão uma resposta muito brevemente, quando se souberem os resultados eleitorais.

Today there are elections in two European countries: Germany and Portugal. Aparently, there won't be many surprises and the winners will be those who are now runlling both countries. Angela Merkel will remain the german chanceler and José Sócrates will continue as the portuguese prime-minister. But probably the victory repetition will not be the only coincidence. Both won't achieve the absolute majority and will need to call for a coalition. And here lies the main doubt. Will Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (centre-right) succed a coalition with the Free Democratic Party (centre-right) or will be forced to repeat it with the Social Democratic Party (centre-left)? And in Portugal, will José Sócrates' Socialist Party (centre-left) call for an inedited coalition with the Left Bloc (left-wing), party that might become the third biggest political force in the country? Questions that will soon be answered, when the elections results are officialy known.
